Objectives

Knowing the origins and evolution of photography, composition and its aesthetics, including mastering different equipment and techniques to mastering photographic image editing programs, are objectives that we seek to promote in students, namely:

- Know the historical evolution of the photographic process

- Apply basic knowledge of photographic technique

- Identify and adopt photographic composition rules

- Know basic photo editing procedures

- Select photographs and organize a photographic portfolio

Teaching Methods

Teaching and learning methodologies are developed based on the ESE/IPS Pedagogical Model. During the work sessions, the following activities will be conducted: 1. Presenting videos and photographs that showcase various approaches to photographic techniques and aesthetics, followed by monitoring and individual discussions regarding each student's work. 2. Analyzing two images per student in every session, using these examples to introduce related content on photographic techniques and aesthetics. 3. Ensuring that all content is illustrated with photographs, graphs, and diagrams to enhance the understanding of the issues being addressed. These strategies aim to provide a comprehensive learning experience.

Syllabus

History of photography, the different processes and their protagonists.

Practical demonstration of the different components of a camera and their relationship in obtaining technically adequate photographs.

Visioning, production and reflection of photographic works that lead to a better understanding of the basic rules of photographic composition.

Identification of stylistic currents to create more reflective habits and attitudes.

Thematic portfolios of photographs and their requirements regarding the selection and spatial organization of images.

Content Explanation

To achieve the first objective, the historical evolution of photographic processes and their most significant inventors is articulated.

In the second objective, the different functions and articulations of the essential components of a camera are demonstrated.

The third objective addresses the composition of the photographic image, stylistic currents and issues related to creativity and originality.

In the fourth objective, students are asked to select their photographs to be included in the portfolio.

Methodology Explanation

To approach historical aspects, different visual supports are used, such as videos, photographs, diagrams that contribute to the understanding of the content, always followed by debate.

General exemplifications will whenever possible be accompanied by audiovisual material, allowing students to acquire knowledge as well as knowledge of the proper functioning of a camera.

Awareness of issues relating to photographic composition is introduced by watching videos and photographic images from experts seeking to demonstrate the different options. When individually monitoring student work, reflection is made on technical and aesthetic issues.

Stimulating the editing of photographic images using different image editing programs will be a concern.

The most appropriate procedures for the different purposes for which the images are intended, what should be avoided when processing the images and the particularities of the different programs, constitute the main concerns to be taken into account.

The last objective is related to competence in choosing and organizing a photographic portfolio. This is achieved through individual monitoring of each student in choosing photographs and organizing their own portfolio. Initially, several works of this genre are presented.
