    Degree details

  • Degree objectives

This proposal for a Master's programme in Speech Therapy presents an adaptable study plan that aims to meet the postgraduate training needs of speech therapists. The syllabus is innovative in that it does not include pre-defined pathways that condition the student's training pathways to a specific area of intervention and/or a specific population. In the 1st year, students develop advanced skills in cross-cutting areas of Speech Therapy in terms of: (i) critical analysis and development of assessment and intervention tools, (ii) evidence-based practice and practice-based evidence, (iii) models of action (operational levels of intervention including preventive, group and/or individual, face-to-face and/or distance, with and/or without the use of technology, using multi-professional collaborative practices, focusing on the user and empowering them, their carers and/or family, among other aspects). At the same time, students develop specialised skills, individualising their path based on the options available in specialised areas: speech, language (oral and written), fluency, voice and swallowing, in children and/or adults. Also in the 1st year, students systematise and deepen content that will enable them to plan and carry out their projects, as well as adopt systematised mechanisms for designing and monitoring their clinical practices. In the 2nd year, students finalise the study cycle by choosing to develop a dissertation or project work, reflecting their interests and motivations, and/or their experience and needs in terms of professional practice. In this process, they refine their research skills, contributing to the transfer and original application of knowledge to Speech Therapy. The teaching-learning model of this course is mixed (b-learning), face-to-face and distance learning (with synchronous classes), compatible with different student profiles, whether they are working or not. The curricular units include diversified teaching-learning methodologies, linking theory and practice, and active student participation, allowing knowledge to be applied to concrete situations and generalised to similar ones. The teaching staff is qualified (mostly PhDs and specialists) and multi-professional (speech therapists, psychologists, linguists, doctors and other professionals).
