Learning objectives and skills to be developed
The main objective of the Introduction to BIM Design for Building Structures and Networks course is to
consolidate and deepen knowledge, focusing on the integration of engineering specialities
in a BIM environment. It aims to provide students and professionals with a practical and
systematic understanding of the application of the methodology to the design of structures and building networks (supply,
drainage and rainwater), in conjunction with architectural design.
Thus, the course aims to:
•Develop skills in the preparation and adaptation of BIM models for different disciplines;
•Train students in the modelling of structural elements (pillars, beams, slabs, walls,
foundations);
•Introduce concepts and tools for modelling building hydraulic and sanitary networks;
•Promote integration and compatibility between architecture, structures and installations;
•Encourage the use of the BIM model as a basis for project documentation, measurements and extraction
of technical information.
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is currently a fundamental methodology in the
Architecture, Engineering and Construction sector, allowing for rep -
