Speech and Language Therapy

    Degree details

  • Degree objectives

The degree course in Speech Therapy lasts four academic years and prepares professionals for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and scientific development of Communication, Language, Speech, Voice and Swallowing disorders. Its syllabus is organised on the basis of the speech therapist's professional competences, moving from practice to theory. Professional tasks form the centrepiece of the syllabus. Students work on cases derived from professional reality, in simulations during the first two years of training, and in a real learning environment in the internships of the last two years. The speech therapist works at any age of the patient's life and often in interaction with other professionals (doctors, psychologists, other therapists) and the patient's family. The ability to communicate interpersonally and work cooperatively, as well as a sense of scientific innovation, are essential to the practice of this profession, thus contributing to improving the quality of the services provided, as well as to the development of scientific knowledge in this area.
