    The Master's Degree in Occupational Safety and Hygiene is oriented towards the objective resolution of challenges that arise in the field of Occupational Safety and Hygiene with regard to the design/acquisition, use of equipment, facilities and/or infrastructures, from a perspective of transversal functions and promotion of the development of the Safety Culture. The general objectives of the course aim to enable professional and academic qualification, allowing its holders to perform the functions of Senior OSH Technician in the various sectors of economic activity (agricultural, industrial, services, tourism, among others), as well as to ensure its implementation and development in the workplace, with regard to prevention and protection services against occupational risks. in a framework of promoting the improvement of working conditions and economic competitiveness, adjusted to technological change.

    The Master's Degree in Occupational Safety and Hygiene is a joint realization of ESCE/IPS and ESTSetúbal/IPS, and is organized in order to provide holders of higher education courses with the obtaining and deepening of sustained skills that allow the improvement of professional performance in the Industrial and Service sectors, in the areas of Occupational Hygiene, Risk and Safety at Work, without neglecting Research & Development.
    This course aims to train highly qualified professionals to perform technical and management functions in terms of safety at work, namely at the following levels: Safety and Regulation at Work, Hygiene at Work, Risk Analysis, Assessment and Control, Emergency Management and Organization, Management of Material Risks (e.g. physical, biological, chemical, ergonomic) and Psychosocial, Management of Safety Culture and Behaviors, Occupational Health Management and HST Management Systems and Audits.
    Organized on a semester basis, the study plan comprises a one-year teaching part consisting of nine curricular units, five in the 1st semester and four in the 2nd semester. The 2nd year comprises a teaching part in the 1st semester, consisting of two curricular units, and two other curricular units, one, an annual Seminar in SHT, in order to create a space for the development of complementary skills, sharing of experiences and critical reflection on the themes of the course and another corresponding to three trimesters for the development of a Dissertation, Applied research project or Internship.

  • Saídas profissionais

    The cooperation with the ACT (Authority for Working Conditions) allows, at the level of the homologation of the course, the qualification to obtain the Professional Title of Senior Safety Technician at Work level VI (former Certificate of Professional Aptitude), to students who complete the first year of the MSc. Access to the Professional Title of Higher Occupational Safety Technician level VII, is reserved for students who complete the Master. However, unlicensed students who enter the Masters (under article 17, paragraph 1, point d) of DL 74/2006 of March 24), instead of having access to level VI, will only have access to the Degree Professional level VII, which implies the completion of the Master.

    Recognition of prior learning is carried out in accordance with the Academic Regulations of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal.

  • Condições de acesso e ingresso

    All those who have the following conditions, in the areas of engineering, business sciences, psychology, sociology, pharmaceutical sciences, law, or other related areas, can apply to the MSHT: a) Holders of a bachelor's degree or legal equivalent; b) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree conferred following a 1st cycle of studies organized in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this Process; c) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree that is recognized as meeting the objectives of the bachelor's degree by the statutorily competent scientific body of the higher education institution where they intend to be admitted; d) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum, which is recognized as attesting to the ability to carry out this cycle of studies by the statutorily competent scientific body of the higher education institution where they intend to be admitted
